In honor of my marriage I’m giving away the song that we walked down the isle to (just click the down-arrow to the right of the audio player below).
The process of writing music for this was interesting. I didn’t know how long each of the sections were going to take (i.e. main procession, transition, etc), so I made each section loop-able and had a friend trigger it in Ableton. It worked out great in the end. Hope you enjoy…
Music for Real Airports is a multimedia art project by musicians The Black Dog and interactive artists Human which is presented in art galleries. It is also a new album of music by the Black Dog. It is a response to the reality of occupying the semi-public space of an airport, and a contemporary reply to Brian Eno’s work from the 70s. [read more…]
The album is a bittersweet, enveloping and enormously engaging listen. It is ambient, but focused. This is not sonic mush, nor adolescent noise. Nor is it a dance album. Much of the raw material of the album was made in airports over the last three years. While on tour, the Black Dog made 200 hours of field recordings, much of which was processed and combined with new music in the airport itself, waiting for the next flight. This vast amount of content has been slowly distilled into a set of particularly evocative pieces of music.
This is a work inspired by the “Oldschool” ambient sound of artists like Steve Roach and Klaus Schulze, also like 1980s ambient music such as the famous Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis. I have always been a huge fan of this type of ambient music, and finally got a synthesizer which allows me to make it.
“1986” is straight synthesizer music, with no external FX or computer processing. The computer was only used to record the live performance. The synth I use is the Casio CZ-3000 which is a “Phase Distortion” synthesizer…
Konami is the first physical album by Joseph Misra, originally released in 2002 on Miami’s now-defunct Merck Records (CAT MERCK010).
This humble (and admittedly immature) album has continued to charm new listeners nearly 8 years - as of this writing - after its debut and remains a favorite among fans of Proswell, despite its flaws.
For this reason, the album was remastered to fit within a more modern context. Care was taken to maintain the tone and feel of the original album.
The final product of this update is the album that Proswell thought he was producing through his boombox (with bass and treble knobs turned all the way up).
The sub-par mastering was not discovered until proper monitoring equipment was acquired. By that time, listeners had already grown to love the unique character flaws of the album.
